What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? That's what the phrase says, but that's not what the Chameleon: High Rollers podcast believes in. In fact, this true crime podcast wants to expose everything that happened in Las Vegas. At least when it comes to the FBI sting named Operation Bo-Tox. Why? Because this story is too good not to share.
In the second season of the Chameleon series, the podcast gets a new story and host. Journalist Trevor Aaronson first reported this stranger-than-fiction story on The Intercept. So it only makes sense that he would be the one to host the 10-episode series. He finds out even more details in this unbelievable tale.
The protagonist of Chameleon: High Rollers, Emile Bouari, runs a diet clinic in Las Vegas. Sure, his clinic might sound a bit shady. He promises to help people lose weight by injecting them with a hormone. But it's hardly suspicious enough to make the FBI believe he's running a money-laundering scam. Especially one big enough to warrant a two-year investigation with undercover agents. So what's going on here?
According to recordings from the FBI, this whole sting started with a love triangle. Bouari had been in a turbulent relationship with fitness model Kim Milko for a while. They kept breaking up and getting back together, always fighting. During one of their breaks, Milko started flirting with a local lawyer Paul Padda. Things got complicated when one evening, Padda confronted the couple at a restaurant. Later, hateful comments appeared on a review website about the lawyer. This led him to file a defamation lawsuit. And out of nowhere, Bouari was now investigated by the FBI. This is a good place to mention that Padda was also an ex-federal prosecutor. Coincidence? Maybe.
In Chameleon: High Rollers, Aaronson sifts through 20 hours of FBI recording to get to the bottom of this operation. He reveals a scandalous story involving strippers, threesomes, and even gun sellers. Every development makes the listener wonder, who are the bad guys? Do they even know which side they're on? This Chameleon series will keep listeners intrigued.
