Are Bitcoin NFT's Breaking Bitcoin?!

Are Bitcoin NFT's Breaking Bitcoin?!
Bitcoin NFT's or 'Ordinal Inscriptions' as they are technically known, are utilising a recent bitcoin upgrade/update and the creation of an Ordinal Protocol (which arbitrarily assigns each Satoshi a value) to place content directly on the bitcoin blockchain. Those wanting to 'mint' bitcoin NFT's and place content on the bitcoin blockchain (with assignment to a particular satoshi) are paying to have this content added (usually saved for bitcoin transaction data) which is significantly driving up the price of block space (thus increasing bitcoin gas fees to unsustainable amounts). This has created a lot of debate in the bitcoin space as to whether the recent Taproot and SegWit upgrades should be reversed to prevent bitcoin being used in this way. In this video Crypto Ethic founder and lead coach Tansy Baigent and her co-host Anja Claus return to discuss this timely topic. ... Is Freedom Possible?

Is Freedom Possible?
In this video Tansy and Anja discuss how personal freedom looks in the 'land of the free' and whether it will always be the case that a fear of losing power by the ruling authorities will always drive the suppression of these freedoms? As individuals when we think of freedoms perhaps we may think of those articulated by the Convention of Human Rights, or the enacted by the Constitution (and the Amendments), or about basic personal freedoms to have open access to a home, to ones' own money, to clean and healthy food. We may think about the right to personal choices (where these do not harm others') over our money, bodies, health, global location. But as nations it feels that such freedoms are given little credence in favour of control and the pursuit of prescribed outcomes - whether this is profit, religious dogma, fear or the retention of power. It seems that more of a discussion is needed around what freedoms are, and how best to protect them? Collapsing Banks & Money Runs!

Collapsing Banks & Money Runs!
It's been an extraordinary weekend in crypto and the wider banking sector (US-focussed) and because of that we have delayed our planned show for this week and Tansy (lead coach of The Crypto Ethic) made this short video to share a little bit of the news as it relates to the several bank collapses (focussing on Silvergate and Silicon Valley Bank) and the run on USDC (a stable coin) that lost, for a time, it's $1 peg due to a high number of people trying to exchange their holdings of it (with many in the crypto space facing PTSD reminders of the Luna/UST collapse). There is MUCH more to cover and Tansy & Anja will be back next week (and ongoing weeks) to reflect on all that has been going on but it felt important to release this video to share some of the immediately riskier news in the space as it relates to money held in banks, the potential for further impacts and a potential run on USDC when exchanging it for USD resumes on Monday. www.thecryptoethic.com If you enjoyed this episode please consider subscribing to our channel @thecryptoethic to receive notifications with every new release. How Bitcoin Supports a Greener Future with Margot Paez

How Bitcoin Supports a Greener Future with Margot Paez
This week we had the pleasure of speaking with Margot Paez, who is part of the Bitcoin Policy Institute and is a PhD candidate working on Climate Change modelling. Margot speaks and writes extensively on the relationship between bitcoin, money and environmental sustainability. A little written synopsis of this episode: Our current global economic system contributes towards climate change and long-term environmental resource depletion due to the impacts of the over-distribution of fiat money (government-issued) which incentivises businesses to grow far beyond their means and fuel unsustainably high production/consumption demands, as well as to embed a lower time preference of money - i.e as our money depreciates over time it makes little sense to hold it in a bank and so populations are incentivised to spend it. This overspending on the present not only leads to debt and future uncertainty but it directly contributes to the purchase of quantity over quality,  and the push to make purchases now - greater fuelling the unsustainable production/consumption cycle.  What is need is structural and financial change.  Bitcoin provides a way out of this unsustainable system, by having a built-in supply limit of 21 million bitcoin (released over time), the scarcity of it as a money contributes to it's value rising over time and in response creating a higher time preference around it (i.e people won't want to spend it arbitrarily as money itself will be intrinsically valuable - in similar ways to gold, if gold supply was limited). In this conversation Margot Paez argues this perspective and alleges that moving to global bitcoin adoption will support environmental sustainability and create a better world for future generations, although she does take account of the immediate difficulty around the uncertainty of the bitcoin price as it is still in price discovery and is used as a tradable high risk asset by financial institutions and investors and so continues to fluctuate significantly.
