Our Editor's Take

Oprah Winfrey produces many podcasts. But one that is particularly close to her heart is Oprah's Super Soul. It's the podcast version of Super Soul Sunday, her popular interview program on The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). The idea of the original television show was to feature spiritual and uplifting interviews each Sunday morning. Since 2017, listeners have been able to hear this wisdom any day of the week with Oprah's Super Soul podcast. They're billed as “best-of” episodes selected by Oprah herself. The program also features memorable interviews from The Oprah Winfrey Show.

While the TV show went off the air in 2011, Oprah is still a powerful force in the broadcasting world. She's Oprah! She always attracts big-name guests. Being interviewed on Oprah's TV show couch was always a huge honor. Now it's sitting outside with Oprah talking at her Montecito estate or Maui mansion. Oprah's Super Soul may feature celebrities like Tom Brady, Beyoncé, and Lady Gaga. And thinkers like Maya Angelou, Brené Brown, and Joel Osteen get their say. But the show is more uplifting than a standard Hollywood interview. Each of Oprah's guests talks about how to “live your best life.”

Oprah was the first Black female billionaire. She's got her own charity, Oprah's Angel Network. Her good works won her the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She's the undisputed “Queen of All Media.” She's likely a strong contender for the most influential person in the world. This podcast is one way she uses her broad influence to help her audience's personal growth.

Oprah has said these Super Soul shows present “the most universal and powerful life lessons.” They also have many ”aha moments.” The point of all the episodes is to fulfill Oprah's greatest wish for the show. What is that wish? It's that “these conversations will help illuminate your path to all you've been meaning to be and all you're meant to be.”

Super Soul Special: Oprah Winfrey: Grace and Gratitude

Super Soul Special: Oprah Winfrey: Grace and Gratitude
Original Air Date: January 27, 2021One of Oprah’s favorite quotes comes from German mystic Meister Eckhart. He said, “If the only prayer you say in your entire life is ‘thank you,’ that will be enough.” Oprah says when she started keeping a gratitude journal more than 20 years ago, it was one of the most important things she’s done. The daily practice of writing down five things to be grateful for balanced her life in subtle and inspiring ways. "It sounds simple,” Oprah says, “but when you go through the day staying conscious about what you put on your gratitude list, it shifts the lens through which you see the world.” In this episode of Super Soul, Oprah sits down with luminaries like Mark Nepo, Ram Dass, Elizabeth Lesser, Reverend Ed Bacon, Tracey Jackson, Paul Williams, Geneen Roth, Cheryl Strayed, Caroline Myss, Gretchen Rubin, Shawn Achor, Marie Forleo, Lynne Twist, Louie Schwartzberg and Norman Lear to discover that the practice of gratitude can elevate our lives to a state of grace. Interviews with these talented writers, speakers and thought leaders are excerpted from Oprah’s Emmy Award-winning show Super Soul Sunday. You can also find this compilation and other insightful conversations in Oprah’s best-selling book The Wisdom of Sundays. Ram Dass passed away in 2019. Norman Lear passed away in 2023. Want more podcasts from OWN?
