Gevian Dargan, former assistant-editor at Milestone Comics, joins Wes for “It’s Complicated” to discuss hot-button issues from todays culture. Today Gevian and Wes discuss the need for comics and other industries to find new customers. Unfortunately, comic books reliance on older readership is a problem of their own making. They abandoned kids and mass distribution in the 90’s in favor of a more upscale, higher priced collectible market. Parents and children didn’t stop reading they just looked for their entertainment in new places. In many ways Western comic books are priced out of many mass markets until they can get a better price point and more accessible product. Now DC, Marvel and other publishers have turned to Twitter and other social media crowds to become their tastemakers. Running of the fans that stuck around and poisoning the well for potential new readers. How can Marvel and DC right the ship? Wes and Gevian discuss at length in today’s It’s Complicated.
