When you're invited to be a guest on someone's record, you often have to surrender control over to the universe. If you're a control freak like me, this can be quite a challenge.
Back in April of 2020 a Canadian artist by the name of Junk that I had met on a previous ¡MAYDAY! tour contacted me and offered me a slot on an upcoming record of his called Family Over Everything.
I liked the record and obliged with a verse about a month later.
Then the signal went quiet on the record and it's release as it often does with features.
I figured it just hadn't been completed or prepped for release.
Honestly I didn't even think about it.
Until Junk contacted me and told me that another Artist I met the same night as him had asked to use the record on his album.
Only thing was they completely remixed the beat and changed the hook.
I normally HATE when the beat gets changed after I write and record to something. I am a follower of the theory that what I write is meant solely for that composition and if it wasn't meant to be then it wasn't meant to be.
Either way they contacted me to clear that I was ok with the changes and I did dig what they did enough to clear it.
The record was released on Snak The Ripper's album Let It Rip. The track ended up being called Provider.
You can hear the final version here >>> https://youtu.be/pYPj-krooyo
But I really did dig the original ride of the verse on the beat I wrote it to and so I wanted to share the original rough version with you guys and see what you think.
Do you prefer the original rough or the final released version?
Let me know in the comments!
More to come...
