Our Editor's Take

The Black Girl Burnout podcast guides Black women on a journey of joy and self-care. Therapist and host Kelley Bonner is on a mission to provide women with the tools they need to cope with stress. For more than 15 years, she has helped people deal with stress in their careers and relationships. She examines how racism and sexism can contribute to feeling undervalued and overwhelmed. If ignored, these feelings of stress can cause exhaustion known as "burnout."

Each podcast episode guides listeners on how to make more positive life choices. One episode discusses how to "Opt-Out of Drama." Kelley talks about how people tend to invite drama into their daily life. She labels herself as a drama addict in recovery despite appearing easygoing. By examining her life, Kelley realized she was asking for drama in all areas. She was the only Black employee working in a local prison. Kelley also chose relationships for the drama they created. In the Black Girl Burnout podcast, she teaches listeners how to work toward achieving a life without drama.

Another episode of Black Girl Burnout discusses loneliness. The show talks about this impact on mental health. Kelley believes there's a historical significance for Black women. She talks about the importance of a meaningful community to provide social support. Kelley also discusses how people can feel alone despite having close relationships.

In a series of episodes, Kelley focuses on how to "Opt Into The Pursuit of Joy." Joining her for the discussion is podcaster and friend Christine Job. Christine's podcast Flourish In The Foreign shares stories of Black women living incredible lives abroad. Together they discuss how to find joy on a journey of self-care and wellness. Christine shares her hard work to live a healthy life of abundance and joy.

Black Girl Burnout releases new episodes three times a week. Therapist Kelley provides helpful tools and healing practices dedicated to supporting Black women. She is open about her healing journey and welcomes joy and positivity throughout.
