Keli Spanier of Colette Paperie talks quitting her FT job, risk taking, and humor
Welcome to the Makers Gonna Make Show where Julie Bee interviews makers about their brand's story and the behind-the-scenes of operating their business.   Like many other successful makers, post-pandemic, Keli started what’s now Colette Paperie as a side hustle to her corporate job. She was working at a mass-merchant with her design degree. When her mother turned ill, she was able to leave her job to spend more time with her. During her mom’s time in the hospital, she received cards that were sad, and they were at a time when they really wanted to laugh.   That’s when Keli had her, “ah-ha” moment and a light bulb went off in her head and she was off to creating humorous greeting cards.   Have weekly leadership tips and insights delivered straight to your inbox – sign up here.   If you’d like to connect with Julie, she’s available on the Web and on most social media platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.     Julie has spoken to countless organizations for 14+ years on topics including leadership, management, employee engagement and morale, workplace culture, small business ownership, and entrepreneurship. Alicia Soret & Dave Okun of SoRetro Straps talk limited edition success and nightly Facebook lives
Welcome to the Makers Gonna Make Show where Julie Bee interviews makers about their brand's story and the behind-the-scenes of operating their business.   Alicia Soret’s inspiration started in 2018 when she couldn’t find a cross-body strap for her purse or camera. Everything she found was either too short, poor-quality, or insanely expensive. It was at that point that Alicia decided it was time for her to try something of her own.   After buying an insane amount of material, she and Dave decided to make a business out of it and began making straps to be worn across the body. First, it was an Etsy shop then on to craft shows and farmer's markets and now, they’re online and selling bags, wallets, and totes.   Listen to this week’s episode for more of Alicia and Dave’s conversation with Julie, especially their discussion around their bag auctions and being live nightly on Facebook.
