Colin Cowherd Podcast - Bills Outlast Ravens, Eagles Beat Rams, AFC/NFC Championship Picks, National Championship Preview
Colin’s joined by John Middlekauff, host of “3 and Out” to break down all the action from the divisional round of the NFL Playoffs! They start with the Bills holding on to beat the Ravens, why they don’t put the loss on Lamar Jackson, and why it was turnovers that sunk the Ravens. They credit the Bills gameplan for not asking Josh Allen to do too much and playing extremely physical football (3:00).  They look ahead to the AFC Championship between the Bills and Chiefs and make their picks for the game and predict the winner will hoist the Lombardi trophy (13:45). They pivot to the Eagles beating the Rams and Colin credits Saquon Barkley for being “spectacular” and one of the best running backs he’s ever seen. They give kudos to Eagles GM Howie Roseman for building an incredible roster that the Rams struggled to keep up with (23:30). They debate whether the Lions are destined to take a step back in the coming years if they lose two coordinators to head coaching jobs and whether the Lions need to draft a quarterback (38:00). They discuss the incredibly bright future for the Commanders being able to surround superstar rookie QB Jayden Daniels with talent while he’s on a rookie deal (42:00).   They give kudos to Travis Kelce for being able to “turn it on” in the biggest moments including his huge performance in the Chiefs win over the Texans, and why the NFL needs to tweak the rules around unnecessary roughness after two questionable calls (56:15). They warn Lions OC Ben Johnson against taking the head coaching job for the Raiders and debate which job he should prioritize (1:05:45).  Finally, they preview the National Championship between Ohio State and Notre Dame, debate whether Notre Dame has a chance to upset the Buckeyes, and wonder whether Marcus Freeman should consider one of the NFL head coaching openings (1:20:30).  (Timestamps may vary based on advertisements.) 3 & Out - Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders DOMINATE NFC No. 1 Seed Detroit Lions in NFL divisional round
John returns on this NFL Saturday to break down Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders out dueling the NFC’s top team in the Detroit Lions by a score of 45-31. First, John salutes the sensational rookie QB and former Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels as the Commanders offense capitalized on the Lions turnovers during an epic NFC upset. Middlekauff GOES off on the Detroit Lions struggling offense and coordinator Ben Johnson for getting “cute” with Tom Brady and the Las Vegas Raiders eyes upon the potential head coach in waiting. John proceeds to tee off on the Lions’ banged up defense for being unable to stop Jayden and a potent Commanders offense, comparing the former LSU quarterback to Baltimore Ravens star QB Lamar Jackson for his dynamic impact on the position before debating his place on the greatest rookie QB ladder. Next, John breaks down the myth of the Commanders playing with “house money” as they gear up for an NFC championship appearance. After, John pivots his focus to Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs’ quest for a third Super Bowl victory in a row. Middlekauff talks about how the Kansas City Chiefs and their reputation for getting beneficial calls is good for business, and not going anywhere in the NFL any time soon before saluting DeMeco Ryans and the Houston Texans effort in the loss. After, John salutes Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs’ high-octane offense before laying out the team’s brutal path to a three-peat. Finally some thoughts on the NFL’s coaching carousel including updates from the Chicago Bears, Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers and more.
