Introducing their new book, "Hired Musician": a guide to getting and keeping gigs. Mat Maxwell & Seth Costner not only got "the gig" playing with some of the top country stars of today, but in my opinion, they are doing it all the right way. They are an active part of the music community, and they keep a down to earth attitude in all that they do.
Their book takes a deep dive into, not only what it takes, but also what to prepare for when you work your way up as a hired musician. In their book, they take a comical and personal approach while giving you an honest face to face of what being a musician is all about.

Mat Maxwell:
Mat has been a musician for about two decades; fifteen of those include professional studio and touring experience. Primarily an electric bassist, he has worked his way up to play with some big name artists, like Luke Combs, Ed Sheeran, Vince Gill, Chris Young, Lauren Alaina, and many more. You can find him playing upright and synth bass as well, and he also has a working knowledge of piano and guitar. You’ll catch him listening to, and playing, all kinds of genres. Pop, fusion, country, et al. When not touring or in a session, he love teaching, hosting clinics, and indulging in good coffee/food/cigars.
Seth Costner:
Seth Costner hails from Gadsden, Alabama and has lived in Nashville, Tennessee since 2003. A graduate of Belmont University’s School of Music, he has worked as a full-time musician and side man for over 15 years. Chris Young, Luke Combs, Kane Brown, Lauren Alaina, Lindsay Ell, The Swon Brothers, Caylee Hammack and The Drifters are just some of the artists he’s had the opportunity to work for. While primarily a keys player, he has also toured as an electric guitarist and utility player (acoustic guitar, mandolin, ganjo, harmonica and more). He has released original music, and played on or contributed as a songwriter to projects for artists including The Swon Brothers, JessLee, Tasji Bachman and more. He enjoys watching Super Mario Bros. speedruns on YouTube, and being first in line to try the latest limited run Zaxby’s food items.
