Coast to Coast Outdoors Episode 18.   * Note I said Episode 17 when it should have been Episode 18.*   We speak with Blaine Caulkins, the Chair of the. Conservative Hunting and Angling Caucus. The Conservative Hunting and Angling Caucus is a group of Conservative parliamentarians who eat, sleep and breathe hunting and angling. This group was created to address the concerns of Canada’s hunting, angling, and trapping community. Conservation is essential to protecting Canada’s rich natural history. Hunters, anglers, and trappers have committed countless volunteer hours and millions of dollars to the conservation of fish, wildlife, and habitat. Conservatives recognized these contributions by creating the Hunting and Angling Advisory Panel. This panel, made up of organizations with long traditions of conservation, helped inform programs and activities related to conservation, hunting, and fishing, all while encouraging the effective stewardship of Canada’s marine and terrestrial wildlife. We created the Recreational Fisheries Conservation Program to work alongside like-minded partners to improve the conservation of recreational fisheries habitats. Conservatives will always stand up for law-abiding firearms owners. As experts have pointed out, blanket gun bans will do nothing to curb gun violence, only making criminals of firearms owners who already follow the law. Only our Conservative Government opposed the wasteful and ineffective Long-Gun Registry that targeted law-abiding hunters and farmers but did nothing to prevent crime. We kept our promise and scrapped the Long-Gun Registry, so that firearm owners are no longer treated like criminals for simply owning a long-gun, and taxpayer dollars are used more efficiently. Canada’s Conservatives support Canadian hunters, anglers, and trappers. The hunting, angling, and trapping community can depend on the Conservative Party to stand up for their way of life because it is our way of life as well. We’re working to ensure the long term viability of Canada’s wildlife resources while establishing conservation programs and protecting the environment.

Coast to Coast Outdoors Episode 9.   A bit about Gary Geddes. Background: Muzzy Hunter and Outdoors Enthusiast Hunting/Fishing Introduced to hunting and fishing by my father who hunted, fished and trapped in NS. Family moved to northern Alberta and my first hunting experiences in my early teens were ducks, geese, partridge and prairie chickens. Fishing included perch, pike (jackfish), walleye, trout, etc. Outdoorsman paradise! In my late teens moved on to deer (Whitetails and Mule) then fortunate to have a “get out of school” card for a week in (grade 10 and 11) to hunt moose with my father. School initially said “no” but my father said “yes”. Those moose hunts introduced me to an activity that still excites me. Fast forward - moved back to NS and as a young man spending my vacation hunting deer in the backwoods of Guysborough County and our camp behind the airport. Marriage and kids curtailed my hunting somewhat but over the last 10 years or so the passion has been re-kindled. Being retired now I spend most of the fall in the woods scouting and hunting whitetails. In the spring wetting the line for trout and strip bass. I generally hunt with a Muzzy as I enjoy the black powder experience. I have also set up a NS muzzy fb group to share info, pics and advise. Next goal is a NL moose hunt with the muzzleloader. But an annual NL moose hunt is by far what I enjoy the most and I’m totally addicted. Since 2010 I’ve been able to go each year except two. After returning from NL I’m already watching moose videos, practicing my moose calls and thinking about another hunt. I’ve been fortunate to have had some pretty interesting moose experiences from some rugged trips into camps and the hunts themselves. I am booked again for this year and am considering using my ML which would be an awesome experience. But ..... it still beats setting up a tent at Lesser Slave Lake in Alberta in the cold and snow and packing out quarters but then again I was much younger. Speaking with Greg Balch In 2003 the program was given the title "Community Wildlife Management Workshops" by then MNR Senior Biologist Pud Hunter. The Program teaches about Wildlife Ecology, Food Web Science, Canadian History and Geography. I carry over 125 mounts that the people are able to touch and explore as well as several tables of historical items from the Fur Trade, some items of which are more than 400 years old. To date have addressed more than 152,000 people since 1993 and invited to speak in several other Provinces. He has been very active in shellfish aquaculture, owning multiple shell fish leases in different maritime provinces, such as oysters, muscles and scallops. Darren has done consulting work for the aquaculture industry, provincial government, as well as industry. He sits on the board of directors of four fishing associations, he is a spokesman for the fishing industry and an advocate for small scale fisheries, coastal communities and the environment. Darren also works extensively with universities, and First Nations. His operations are open to the public, industry, academia, NGO’s and anybody that wishes to interact and immerse themselves in the local and traditional knowledge, as well he provides a rare platform for people to see firsthand the diversity of marine life within the waters. His life’s goal is to integrate the three knowledges; traditional, local, and academic to create true wisdom (third eyed science) to manage the ocean for future generations. Coast to Coast Outdoors Episode 2.  Farm raised in rural New Brunswick, Mr. Holland has been an avid outdoorsperson his entire life. He is co-founder of the Canadian Wild Turkey Federation, a non-profit organization that is quickly becoming the new face of conservation in Canada. Mr. Holland has been a local entrepreneur who sold outdoor gear which he invented. As the founder of Resourceful Redneck Inc., he successfully secured a funding partnership on the CBC TV show Dragon’s Den. Over the years, Mr. Holland has been active with many outdoors and conservation groups, serving in various capacities from volunteer to board member. Mr. Holland began gaining political experience in 2010, working as an executive assistant with cabinet ministers in five different provincial government departments.
