Ep. 17: Part 2 Whole Grains vs Gluten Free w Sue Becker
Welcome BACK to the Whole Topic Podcast! Real women, real talk, real life is our motto! We want you, the listener, to know that these are round table discussions. We hit on all the topics that affect us as women no matter the stage of life that we are in. We called it ‘The Whole Topic” because we want to be able to talk about it all! Episode 16 Part 1: Whole Grains Vs. Gluten Free Whole Grains We are SUPER excited to be interviewing Sue Becker, to talk about whole grains and gluten free whole grains. In this episode we hit on what is in a grain, the benefits of whole grains both gluten free and freshly milled whole grains. We also discuss what it means to have celiac and how many who think they have celiac actually are intolerant to the processed wheat from the store. There are two kinds of celiac and Sue explains both. Sue Beckers Bio: “The Bread Beckers began in 1992 when Sue Becker shared an amazing discovery, first with her husband Brad and their six children, and then with friends. Sue’s background in food science and interest in biochemistry and nutrition often led her to read medical journals in her free time (not everyone’s cup of tea, she’ll admit). One bulletin she read revealed the history of mass-produced food: the decline in American public health can be directly charted to the widespread switch to commercially milled white flour in the 1920s. Real bread, this article said, had little to do with the product on store shelves. What’s more, the authors wrote, many common ailments of the modern era could be traced back to a loss of the essential nutrients and fiber people used to find in bread made with freshly ground whole grains–something almost no one eats today. Sue gave a hard look at the science in the article and decided it rang true. That week Sue bought a grain mill and started making her family’s bread herself. Almost immediately, and without any other dietary changes, little health complaints that she and her children had learned to live with started clearing up. Fatigue, constipation, sugar cravings, chronic congestion, even warts: all gone in a few weeks. Sue shared her “new discovery” with friends and began baking bread for them. Word spread quickly as others experienced improved health as well. But she and Brad had just had their sixth child, and the demand for bread was outpacing her ability to keep up with the rest of her life. She decided that instead of making bread for the world, perhaps her calling was to teach the world to make bread for themselves. The seed of the Bread Beckers was sown.” Find Sue Beckers full bio here: https://www.breadbeckers.com/blog/our-story/ Show Links: Sue’s Healthy Minutes- https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sues-healthy-minutes-with-sue-becker-the-bread-beckers/id1609279985 The Essential Home Ground Flour Book- https://amzn.to/3Sdx7lS https://dearmark23.com/ https://theranchershomestead.com/ Podcast Disclaimer THE WHOLE TOPIC PODCAST EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL LIABILITY OR RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR OTHER DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF ANY INDIVIDUAL'S USE OF, REFERENCE TO, RELIANCE ON, OR INABILITY TO USE, THIS PODCAST OR THE INFORMATION PRESENTED IN THIS PODCAST.
