One of the most important parts of writing a book is having a catchy introduction, or beginning; something that will grab the attention of the potential reader and at the same time will give a hint toward what the remainder of the book will be about. The Gospel According to John does exactly that. This is a true marvel, as the Sanhedrin gave testimony to: "Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus." John was a simple Galilean fisherman who penned one of the most profound books ever written - and that is because it was "god-breathed." John begins this Gospel account by blending concepts that would grab both the Jewish and Greek mind ... and would lay the foundation of his two-fold purpose - Confirming the Deity of Christ (the Son of God who took on flesh to become the Lamb of God to take away the sin of the world) in order to undergird the Unity of the Church.
